The 94th were also abroad when they became the 2nd Battalion. That same year, the French Village of Guillemont was captured by German soldiers. Notes: This is a very unusual war diary as it was kept by the Medical Officer of the 1st Battalion and while it is full of medical details it can be used to supplement the information found in the normal war diary. Those looking at service and medal records are good starting points, along with casualty lists and interpreting photographs. In 1889 the 2nd Battalion deployed to Malta.  Notes: A short war diary with brief repetitive entries which is often encountered for this post-war period. Following the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, the regiment disbanded, along with the other five regiments that had their traditional recruiting grounds in the counties of the new state.[7]. On 10 January 1916, the Huntsendarrived off Basra and the Battalion soon found itself taking part in the unsuccessful attempts to relieve the besieged 6th (Poona) Division at Kut-al-Amara.
